I just feel overwhelmed by everything I have accumulated over the years. I would feel embarrassed having someone see that.

All of us grapple with these feelings and struggle to keep order in all corners of our living space. I confess: it is an ongoing struggle for me to reduce the number of books I own. Or keep my kitchen cabinets uncluttered. Any of us over a certain age have probably over-accumulated, and this can feel overwhelming. We provide our services in the spirit of support and understanding. We are here to help you make the decisions and take the actions to free yourself from negative feelings. And please, do not feel like you need to clean up or “pre-organize” before we make a home visit!

My parents/partner are now gone, and I have so many things that used to belong to them. It would be so hard to let go of these. They have such special meaning.

Our intent is not in any way to force you to throw away items that are important to you. Our intent is to help you develop a decision framework for determining what possessions are meaningful to you, and should be kept, and which just bring clutter and chaos, and should be purged. Our process is about empowering YOU to curate your belongings to create the environment where you find peace and good memories.

I don't want to get rid of anything that my kids may want down the line. I am saving all of this for them!

The desire to pass down special family treasures or artifacts is a powerful and loving impulse. But the realityi s that our kids or grandkids might not need, or even want, all the items we have in mind for them: books, dinnerware, furniture, little artifacts, apparel, and so on. We can help you assess and make decisions on legacy belongings with deep emotional meaning or financial value, and think of alternative directions for passing on other items.

Can you just come in and sort through my things without me? Do I have to be there?

Our process is about determining the belongings and creating the organized space that reflects you and your needs. Organizing is a highly collaborative process: I help you make the decisions that only you can make, and together we act on those decisions.

I don’t want to just throw away my extra stuff! That seems so wasteful.

We can help you reduce your belongings in ways that respect the value of the item and are environmentally and socially responsible. We work with organizations that can direct materials to people in need, thrift stores and consignment shops and recycling centers. We can also help you dispose of items that are too worn or otherwise inappropriate for passing on.
